We also won best advisory board, best proposal, and the Crest award of merit. I would like to make note that all of these award were not earned through anything else but hard work and dedicated time to the project. Togther, we might have worked on our project two to three more times than the runner-up team who won a couple awards also. We netted over one thousand dollars for aquaculture, which I was very happy about because the intensive science classes taught here are important for educating the scientists of the future, who, like of our team, will work toward the solutions of future global challenges. But our winnings that I am mostly happy about is the thirty five hundred dollar internship to work over the summer to produce Sanus Terra in our choice of a lab. I look forward to continuing the work on the Team Green Fusion project, because in all reality, i wasn't ready to let Team Green Fusion end after Expo.

Big news!! I just got the tshirts today just in time for our trip to Hartford tomorrow, and on behalf of all the members of Team Green Fusion, we want to thank my uncle Edwin Rosado at Templegraphic imprints, the shirts came out beautiful =]

Everything is pretty much set for Saturday, all we really have to work on is our booth and presenting and then just resting up for a long day, we've all worked really hard and are confident that this project is going to be one of the best at Expo!

Thnx so much to everyone who helped participate and aid us in this project with materials and information that were key to putting the pieces together, and wish us luck at Expo! We leave tomorrow 3:30 sharp!

I was thinking that 1)we should spend all of this next week working on the project in class because we are way behind on information about the project/ green ranking and also 2) we should have tie-dye t-shirts for expo. How awesome would that  be to have a green fusion tie-dye t-shirt with your name on it? lol. amazing. Anywho, we need to have a full project page done by the end of next week as well as a new page supporting the green ranking of our project. I think that will wow the judges. It seems that there are a lot of ideas floating in the air, all we have to do now is make them material, and we are set for expo. We need to cash in on all of our resources before the deadline to have the project come full-circle. Expo is just around the corner, and anything is possible to happen between now and then.

I just learned that the website is supposed to be finished and completely done by April 24. Thats two weeks. And they just told me now. Not happy about that. I'm getting a t-shirt from them though. Woo. I want to put like a rediculous name on my name tag. Anyway, back to business. I need to have stuff to put on the project page. NEED MORE STUFF. Sorry, it's too early. An imporant thing that we also still need is how to link GFP to the MMO operon. Fortunately, we have a new Avdisory Board member who is studying something in that affinity, and she is willing to help us complete that task. Hold on. Were on the phone with Eileen Etrada.

Adriana here, and yes this is my first blog post on the site! Yay!! I'm sure some of you already know but if you don't, I'm the Advisory Council Editor.Oh, and I hope you all don't mind I just got back from New Jersey and I'm kind of eating my dinner (TV dinner).

Well, I'm leaving this blog to just update you all on how the last Global Challenge meeting went at CCSU yesterday, where biotech students come and continue on their projects for Global Challenge, for example, how we are using a bacteria to clean up oil spills.

The meeting was absolutely amazing! Both teams from the AM and PM classes at our school went and we had a blast. And did I mention that we won the competitions for Best Website and Best Advisory Board? oh and Kenny won the ipod nano? Well I just did =] Along with our amazing bus driver George aka Jorge lol.

And I'm pleased to announce that our Advisory Council Liason (I don't know if I spelled that right) and biotech teacher has just been engaged! Very exciting things in the works.

So let me just talk about the great relationships and bonding we all established yesterday, first we all took pictures of each group and just had fun before the meeting started, then we all went off to our group discussions and talked about what we have accomplished since the last meeting, then we all had lunch together and just laughed pretty much the entire time, we all cheered each other and congratulated one another on winning 2 out of the 3 competitions and thanked our Education Connection Advisor Ms. Carolyn Kelly tremendously for an amazing day, then we all just pretty much goofed around in the CCSU gift shop and stocked up on Dr. Pepper (Me and Keli) and junk food for the ride back. Not to mention the great fun we all had on the bus, we all have so much in common, the AM and PM classes, and we all think that we should go to the Expo in May and just cheer each other throughout the entire time since both projects are equally incredible and deserve to have a chance to compete!

Team Green Fusion (AM) and The Venom Project(PM), how can you not have these 2 amazing teams and even more amazing projects be in one room together at all? It would be like not having fireworks on the 4th of July, Obama not promising change to America, the nucleus of a cell not containing DNA! I can just go on and on with these analogies but I won't =]

Team Venom Fusion! The Green Venom Project! ?? Yeah I was actually trying to somehow combine the 2 names but obviously it hasn't really progressed to anything really eye catching, but I'm still working on it!

So thanks to everyone at The Venom Project and everyone who helped get us to CCSU safe and sound and then making our day a rememberable one and the great friends we all made! Come the day we arrive at the Expo I just hope that we all go to have fun and keeping in mind that these 2 projects both deserve to be winners no matter what the outcome will be!

I just realized that TGF is an acronym for "Thank God it's Friday." lol. Anyway, I made a video to rival the afternoon class's that they have on their site last night. It was okay, just a thought, but it needs to get edited and other various things done to it. Meh. Carolyn Kelly, an important figure in the Biotech Innovations contest, had visited us the other day. It was at first awkward because we didn't know what to say to her, but then as we started her lesson, it got a little bit better, but we still couldn't think of many questions for her, and I think questions are the real things we need to ask at this point. We need to keep our speed up so that we don't slow down and hit the wall. Other that, she said that we were way ahead of the pack. And that postion needs

I think it's just the computer, but still, man! Anyway, vacation halted research for a bit, but now we're back, so back to work. We have the GFP sequence! *Happy dance* We still need to find the genome for our bacteria. Have we decided on Pseudomonas putida or what? If we are, I have a lot of null and void junkn research on other bacterias. But hey, we might not be able to tag the putida bacteria. We won't know until we can come up with its genome and compare the proteins. I feel like we might be missing something. If there's something we need to and haven't researched yet, send me an e-mail I guess.

]]><![CDATA[MMO system- by Kenny]]>Mon, 23 Feb 2009 05:37:56 +0700http://teamgreenfusion.weebly.com/1/post/2009/02/mmo-system.htmlHey guys alright an important part of this project is going to be understanding the digestive system of these bacteria we are dealing with and how excatly are they doing it.  So far we have found out that the system for the bacteria biodegrading the oil is called the methane monooxygenase (MMO) system.  Now we know the system's name but we do not know how it works or the chemistry behind it.  At this point it is very important that we find a credible scientists who has experience with this system and who will teach us how this system works.
